Tinchuley is a small mountain village located 32 km from Darjeeling at an elevation of 5,800 feet. Once a remote settlement, it has developed into a self-sufficient eco-friendly village with support from the World Wildlife Federation.

Local efforts have led to the establishment of floriculture projects, a forest nursery, and composting initiatives, including bio-compost and vermicompost production.

The village name comes from the local language, where “Tin” means “Three” and “Chuley” means “Oven.” The name refers to three prominent hilltops that resemble traditional clay ovens when viewed from a distance.

The temperature stays comfortable during the day but drops at night. It is advisable to carry warm clothes regardless of when you visit.
